I-471 reopens after tanker explosion and massive fire

All lanes of I-471 between Cincinnati and Newport have reopened after a dramatic tanker truck explosion and fireforced a major overnight shutdown Friday.

Emergency crews closed the highway for hours as firefighters battled flames and transportation crews inspected the bridge for damage. Officials confirmed no fatalities and said only minor injuries were reported.

Bottom line: One of the region’s busiest river crossings is back open after a crash that temporarily disrupted travel between Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
